Linguistics bibliography roundup

Something for everyone

Edward M "Ted" McClure, Librarian

VHM:  Given that these items cover a lot of territory and are up-to-date, I'm hoping all Language Log readers will find something of interest among them.  If you like this carefully curated (!) current linguistics bibliography, let me know and I'll make it a regurlar feature of Language Log.

    I like it! You've got your "clickbait": "The Evolutionary Origin of Human Kissing.");
    …something for the hyper-specialist: "Cultural Nuances in Subtitling the Religious Discourse Marker Wallah in Jordanian Drama into English.";
    …something for UFO conspiracy theorists: "Surprisingly High-Altitude Silk Road City Mapped from the Sky.";
    … and something in the "'j'ever wonder?" category: "Bilingual Language Control during Single-Language Production: Does Relocation to a New Linguistic Environment Change It?".

    Although, I was expecting a bigger payoff from "A Humanized NOVA1 Splicing Factor Alters Mouse Vocal Communications.", but there's no Mary Shelly / Warner Bros. ending to be found here.

    Being dispositionally lazy, and as this makes for a nice supplement to the Annual Review, I'd be more than glad to have it become a regurlar feature far from the madding gerund. (Had a whale of a time going through the papers on animal municomcations, BTW.)

    I wonder what Chomsky would say about the theory that just a little gene tinkering can throw open vast areas of neurological cognitive development.
