Wow Food

Carl Johnson sent in this nice bilingual pun:

The name of the restaurant in Chinese is:

Huáfǔ 華府
("flower; florescent; China" + "prefecture; prefect; prefectural capital; government mansion / repository; official residence") = Washington, DC

where "Huá" 華  is short for

Huáshèngdùn 華盛頓 ("Washington")

so

Huáfǔ 華府

means

Huá[shèngdùn] fǔ 華[盛頓]府 ("Wa[shington] capital")

華府 in Cantonese is waa4fu2.

As far as I know, their only location is in Baltimore, not DC, so I think Hua indicates “China” rather than DC, but maybe it means both.

    – Wow Food
    – Huafu sounds like Wow Foods
    – Means Washington Capitols
    – Also means Chinese Capitals

This is a very good bilingual pun restaurant name.

When I saw the characters (which I read as Cantonese waa4fu2) I immediately thought of wafuu, Japanese for "Japanese style".
