This double use of AI was a plot point in the South Park episode "Deep Learning". Kids turned in long complex essays written by ChatGPT; Mr. Garrison used ChatGPT to grade them.

Not implausible at all to those familiar with what generative AI can do well. The more arresting effect is that classical beliefs would say that this must be an _improvement_ in productivity: after all, it would seem to be so consider either end separately.

Sounds like a new take on an old urban legend:

The concept of AI-generated content being both written and read by AI presents intriguing possibilities for automating and enhancing communication. This dual AI involvement could streamline content creation and consumption, leading to more efficient information dissemination.

Of course it's like an 'urban legend' in not being directly based on something that actually occurred. But unlike those classic versions cited, this could happen with neither side aware of the other; both making independently rational decisions to use AI, that, when combined, become irrational. That's what I meant about productivity, and is probably over-analysing compared to the original intent, but is a real possibility.

having seen teachers' comments on student essays with literal chatgpt boilerplate still in place, the chance this is happening in real life is 100%
