President Trump hears Liu He say "five million tons of soybeans per day". Liu He reiterates "X-day". Did he say "today" or "per day"?

    I heard 'per day' the first time, and 'a day' the second time.

    It sounds like "per day" to me, specifically something non-rhotic like /pəˈdeɪ/.
