I never knew automatically translated YouTube subtitles could be such a blast.
[(myl) I'm pretty sure YouTube is not trying to recognize Russian and then translating to English subtitles — instead it's just trying to recognize the Russian as English. Which is a bit odd, since Language ID technology is probably good enough to know that the language is Russian, and certainly good enough to know that it's not English…]

@myl: You're right, of course. No translation involved: the system is simply trying to transliterate from Russian into English, with hilarious results.
That's what I get for trying to comment intelligently at 4:22 a.m. after hardly any sleep.

The random subtitles are a phenomenon across many Youtube videos. A lot of Korean content that I watch shows subtitles in Hangul, but gets the recognition totally wrong; the output resembles a random sequence of Hangul and English syllables.
It's amusing, but also a disservice to the hearing-impaired.
