A second reason

Today's xkcd:
Mouseover title: ""I think I'll pass. These days I have a hard time feeling comfortable in crowded bars with loud music and lots of shouting." –me, after the pandemic, but now for a second reason"

The pandemic, the internet, television, radio, the federal highway system, WWI, post-Enlightenment anomie…
Maybe COVID-19 will be the "knockout punch" that will take down civilization once and for all. Oh well, we had a good 10,000-or-so-year run. Guess I'll start gathering some sharp sticks together to defend my cave.
Also, where did this phrase, "I know, right?" come from? I get the feeling it originated in South Jersey, but it's crept its way all the way over to Western Pa. Can't say I'm a fan.

Well, it's certainly killed off my go-to family conversation opener: "So, what did you do today?"

A second reason for declining invitations for social interactions: 1) risk of getting covid; 2) my conversational abilities have been destroyed by the social distancing. But other possibilities could be more interesting, e.g., reasons for his lack of normal human conversational abilities: 1) his suspicion that he is not a normal human; 2) the pandemic. There may be others.
