This is not exactly the email message that I'm looking for in connection with a hotel reservation I've recently made:

What a scam, I don't think I got one of those. Clearly only important linguists get entered into the sweepstakes.

The BH wanted to give me a deep discount for a future Hiltonic stay at —- Orlando or LV. Two cities not likely to host the LSA anytime soon.

They (this is that "they" they, the unknow they) always offer discounts on things you are not likely to buy, because then if you buy them, it's more money than they would have gotten. They never offer discounts on things you are going to buy anyway. It's like BOGO free is on things you probably won't buy two of even if the second's free, but "half price" is on things you're gonna buy two of anyway…

"Up in the Air"? That's reassuring.

The Grand Prize is a 6 day/5 night trip to Paris, France. Presumably they'd put you up in one of their five hotels in Paris.
