The meaning of nothing

Six Chix for 1/10/2014:

The complaint might be about failure to pick up on body language or other nonverbal communication channels. But even in a purely textual medium like email or IM or SMS, there's content in absence of content.

And in a more technical direction, there's the role in language learning of implicit negative evidence.

All the same, the strip would have been better, in my opinion, if it had gone counter-stereotypes and reversed the roles.

But if it was the male character with the same complaint, it would be within the stereotype — a taciturn man expects his wife to pick up information off him without words.
