"Citizen Hearing On Disclosure: April 29 To May 3, 2013 – Washington, DC":

An event with historical implications will be held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC from April 29 to May 3, 2013. At that time as many as forty researchers and military/agency witnesses will testify for thirty hours over five days before former members of the United States Congress. […]

The Citizen Hearing on Disclosure of an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race will attempt to accomplish what the Congress has failed to do for forty-five years – seek out the facts surrounding the most important issue of this or any other time.

For this reason the motto for the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure is "If the Congress won't do its job, the people will."

The organizers of this event seem oblivious to the obvious hypothesis, which is that the U.S. Congress itself has been infiltrated by extraterrestrials, and is increasingly dominated by them. But this is Language Log, not Alien Infowars Log, so I'll limit myself to the linguistic question raised by the two strings of Chinese characters in the upper right corner of the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure's home page:

The one on the left, underlined in red, takes us to a Japanese translation of the home page:

And the one on the right takes us to a Chinese translation (where, oddly, there are no corresponding links to the Japanese and English versions):

But what about the French, and the Germans, and the Italians, and the Russians, and the South Asians, and the Arabs, and the Brazilians, and … ?

And to deepen the mystery, you can get a LIVE STREAMING PASS to the hearing in Spanish as well as English:

But no LIVE STREAMING PASSes in Japanese or Chinese, not to speak of all the other languages of Planet Earth.

Update — Oops, the Chinese livestream page

offers streams in Chinese, English, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, and Hindi!

    Isn't there a hanzi missing in the link to the Japanese feed? I just see 日語. Shouldn't it be 日本語?

    Um, is "disclosure" now a topic in itself, rather than something you do to something else? Isn't there a missing object here? What are they actually disclosing (or disclosing something about)?

    Could anyone explain the meaning and grammatical function of the word "Citizen" in the title of this body?

    One of the panel is my former (Gott sei dank!) Congressman, Roscoe Bartlett. Just to give you a calibration point, he carried the Royal Crown on a silken pillow at the coronation of Sun Myung Moon when he (SMM, that is) was proclaimed King of the World (in a House office building).

    @dw: I read it as a parallel to "Congressional hearing" or "Senate hearing."

    @Hening Makholm

    According to Wikipedia, "[i]n the UFO conspiracy theory, disclosure is the revelation of suppressed evidence of extraterrestrial life by the United States government or other world governments."

    @Faldone
    The Chinese word for the Japanese spoken language is Rìyǔ 日語, so no problem there, at least…

    It's a race: The citizens are enlisting the help of former congressmembers to get to the bottom of the alien conspiracy at the same time the real congress is debating a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. Exciting!
