Luckily, no on is paying me for doing this.

Then what are they doing with our subscription money?

“Then what are they doing with our subscription money?”

This joke will be much funnier when the last of the for-profit scientific journals folds and the Elseviers and Springer-Verlags of the world have to find a new outlet for their talents as blood-sucking leeches.

Rob Gunningham responds to Mark Liberman's "Luckily, no on[e] is paying me for doing this" with "Then what are they doing with our subscription money?"

The income from subscriptions floats our frequent champagne receptions in the common room at Language Log Plaza.

As someone who promised his boss, the Wayne State CIO, that he'd keep up a regular blog on faculty issues in Information Technology I find I had only one response to this morning's Doonesbury:
    'That's not funny!!!'

Oddly enough, the blog entry I read immediately before this one was Andrew Wheeler posting about book-review bloggers wanting to get paid.

    Re: those champagne receptions

I'm wondering whether you'll switch to gallons of red wine now?
