    Woot!

I guess there will be a serious conflict of interest, however, if one of the questions hinges on something prescriptive. ;-)

    Retroactive good luck!

Ben, did you have to spend weeks studying?

I can't get Jeopardy on my TV so I'm off to JBoard.tv to look up the result in the discussion forum. It'll be on J Archive soon too.

The Zimmer family on Family Feud is what I'm looking forward to: Ben, Barry, Doug, Aviva, David & Betty Zimmer–battling wits with those 100 previously-polled idiots!

I've never seen such a question on Jeopardy. Some of the questions on "English on "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader", on the other hand, make me want to put a sledgehammer through the wall.

Gee I'd heard academic salaries in the US had declined, but…

Seriously and no offence – I write as a foreigner. Is Jeopardy (or the US) that big that it's local news if a local appears on it?

@Graeme: Local newspapers can be very local. UK locals carry similar stories.

He's quoted in Time magazine as saying "But there's an awful lot of people who are very interested…" This is grammatically incorrect. It should be "There are…" He's a linguist and should know better.
