I first noticed this in listening to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/ma_xCjJHdFc?si=Nxlq9JKDDE4chX0k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">8\/8\/2024 press conference in Mar-a-lago<\/a> &#8212; which seems rather different from e.g. his <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/93B_LGWFD1Q?si=usv3HMFLSomIjKaP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7\/21\/2015 rally speech in Sun City<\/a>., or the many other samples in \"<a href=\"https:\/\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/nll\/?p=61810\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Past posts on Donald Trump's rhetoric<\/a>\", 1\/5\/2024.<\/p>\n<p>At some point before long, I'll provide some numbers to support or undermine this impression. Meanwhile, the comments section is open for your reactions.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here's a short sample from the 8\/8\/2024 press conference:<\/p>\n<p><audio style=\"width: 230px;\" controls=\"controls\"><source src=\"http:\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/myl\/TrumpPresser08082024X1.wav\" type=\"audio\/wav\" \/>Your browser does not support the audio element.<\/audio><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">Most dangerous period of time I've ever seen for our country.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">With that being said uh<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">we have somebody that<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">hasn't received one vote for<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">president and she's running<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">and that's fine with me.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">But we were given<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">Joe Biden<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">and now we're given<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">somebody else<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">and I think frankly I'd rather be running against the somebody else.<br \/>\nBut that was their choice, they decided to do that because uh<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">Kamala's record is horrible.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">She's a radical left<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">person at a level that nobody's seen.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">She picked a radical left<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">uh<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">man<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">that is uh-<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">he's got things done that he's-<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">he has positions that are just not- it's not even possible to believe<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">that they exist.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">uh<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">he's going for things that<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">that nobody's ever<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">even heard of.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">Heavy into the transgender world, heavy into lots of different worlds<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">having to do with safety<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">he doesn't want to have<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">borders he doesn't want to have walls he doesn't want to have any form of safety for our country.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">He doesn't mind people coming in from prisons and<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">neither does she, I guess, because she's not-<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">she couldn't care less she's the border czar.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">By the way, she was the border czar<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">a hundred percent<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">and all of a sudden for the last few weeks she's not the border czar any more,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">like nobody ever said it.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">And I just hope that the uh<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">media becomes<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">more diligent, more honest,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">frankly, because if they're not going to be honest it's going to be much tougher to bring our<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">country back.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;font-size:11px;\">We have a very very sick country right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>From \"<a href=\"https:\/\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/nll\/?p=61810\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Past posts on Donald Trump's rhetoric<\/a>\", 1\/5\/2024:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">[O]ver the past 8 years, many LLOG posts have analyzed several aspects of his rhetorical style, both the text and the delivery, which are strikingly different from other contemporary American politicians and public figures. Specifically, these posts have described his<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Repetition<\/li>\n<li>Informality<\/li>\n<li>Fluency<\/li>\n<li>Melody<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">This has nothing to do with the political and cultural orientation of his speeches \u2014 the same techniques could in principle be applied to the promotion of internationalism rather than nationalism, for example.
