In the wake of Wordle<\/a> have come many other-dles and similar games — a sample in alphabetical order:<\/p>\n

Absurdle<\/a>, Antiwordle<\/a>,\u00a0Byrdle<\/a>, CFBordle<\/a>, Crosswordle<\/a>, Dangle<\/a>, Dordle<\/a>, Framed<\/a>, Gordle<\/a>, Heardle<\/a>, Hello Wordl<\/a>, IYKYK<\/a>, Leaderboardle<\/a>, Lewdle<\/a>, Lookdle<\/a>,\u00a0Lordle of the Rings<\/a>,\u00a0Nerdle<\/a>, Octordle<\/a>, Peotl<\/a>, Primel<\/a>, Quordle<\/a>, Searchdle<\/a>, Sedecordle<\/a>, Squirdle<\/a>, Star Wordle<\/a>, \u00a0Taylordle<\/a>, Waffle<\/a>, WARdle<\/a>, Weddle<\/a>, Wheredle<\/a>, Word Hurdle<\/a>, Worldle<\/a>,\u00a0 …<\/p>\n

Now from Dallin Tucker and Benjamin Tucker<\/a> comes Gramle<\/a>, a Wordle-like game where the goal is an IPA transcription of a displayed spectrogram and waveform. According to the About page<\/a>, \"Gramle was created as a collaboration between DT and BVT. It was DT\u2019s high school computer science final project\".<\/p>\n

It's wonderful that a bright high-school student can now create an impressive interactive web app like this. Further development might well turn this into a useful way to learn about analyzing spectrograms and waveforms — though I suspect that increasing its educational effectiveness might take it in a somewhat less Wordle-ish direction…<\/p>\n

The whole X-le thing has become pretty productive. Add -(d)le<\/em> to a common category word, and there a good chance that the game exists. My first five guesses were all hits:<\/p>\n

Birdle<\/a>, Plantle<\/a>, Cardle<\/a>, Colordl<\/a>e, Cloudle<\/a>, …<\/p>\n

\"Dogdle\" took me to Dogsdle<\/a>, and \"Catdle\" doesn't seem to exist. But overall,\u00a0 the libfix<\/a> -(d)le<\/em> seems to be more productive than the ADS's Word of the Year choice <\/a>-ussy.<\/em><\/p>\n
