The best name for a scandal built on insane conspiracy theories is Crackpot Dome.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Karen Tumulty (@ktumulty) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ktumulty\/status\/1180188077471539201?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 4, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Other anti-Trump contenders besides <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23CrackpotDome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#CrackpotDome<\/a> that have reached the hashtag level include <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23MoronContra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#MoronContra<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/QuidProPotus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#QuidProPotus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ClusterTrump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#ClusterTrump<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/UkraineClownPosse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#UkraineClownPosse<\/a>. Sub-hashtag suggestions include GrifterGate, Crime-a-Lago, Ukraine in the Membrane, and The Doofus Affair, among many others.<\/p>\n<p>These are mostly historical and cultural wordplay, which will amuse people who know the historical an cultural allusions but won't work so well with those who are less well informed, or just younger.<\/p>\n<p>I haven't seen any pro-Trump hashtags relating to this scandal yet, which surprises me given Trump's fondness for evocative nicknames &#8212; but no doubt some readers will be able to fill in the blanks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There's some discussion on twitter of what we should call the current American political scandal: Gates are over.
