It's been a while since the last Goropius Becanus Award — see \"The envelope, please<\/a>\" and \"The Language of Eve<\/a>\" (1\/3\/2007). But a worthy nominee has recently appeared, as reported by\u00a0 Zin Kao, \"English is actually Chinese, scholars claim<\/a>\", The Taiwan News<\/em> 8\/31\/2019 (\"World Civilization Research Association academics also believe all European history before 15th century is fake\"):<\/p>\n

\u201cWorld Civilization Research Association\u201d (\u4e16\u754c\u6587\u660e\u7814\u7a76\u4fc3\u9032\u6703) scholars are claiming that Western civilization originates from China and all European languages are merely Mandarin dialects, the Liberty Times reports.<\/span><\/p>\n

World Civilization Research Association Vice President and Secretary-General Zhai Guiyun (\u7fdf\u6842\u92c6) said during an interview with Sina Online that some English words derive from Mandarin. For example, \u201cyellow\u201d resembles Mandarin for \u201cleaf falling\u201d (\u8449\u843d, yeluo) because it is the color of autumn, while \u201cheart\u201d resembles \u201ccore\u201d (\u6838\u7684, hede).<\/span><\/p>\n

Zhai concluded this \u201cproves\u201d English is, in fact, a \u201cdialect\u201d of Mandarin. He further claimed that after Chinese formed the English language, Russian, French, German, and other European-based languages, went through a similar process of sinicization.<\/span><\/p>\n

The World Civilization Research Association group of scholars are professors from a number of Chinese academic institutions. Association member Zhu Xuanshi (\u8af8\u7384\u8b58) further claimed that Western civilization is a \u201csub-civilization\u201d of Chinese culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said Europeans \u201cfelt ashamed\u201d due to the \u201cfact\u201d there was no history in Europe before the 15th century, compared to China. In an attempt to paper over this historical humiliation, the Europeans \u201cfabricated\u201d stories about ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman civilizations \u2013 all based on Chinese history.<\/span><\/p>\n

World Civilization Research Association founder Du Gangjian (\u675c\u92fc\u5efa) said the organization has set up branches in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Thailand, South Korea, and Madagascar to \u201crestore\u201d the truth of world history. \u201cDo not let fake, Western-centered history hinder the great Sino-Renaissance,\u201d he was quoted as saying.<\/span><\/p>\n
