Will the president nationalize boating?
« previous post | next post »
Myriam Toua, "Donald Trump's advisers 'urge him to declare martial law' amid latest grim poll", The Mirrorus 9/26/2026:
[emphasis added] Martial law in the US would mean the temporary replacement of government and regular law enforcement by a solely military force.
Standard civil liberties, such as freedom of speech, assembly, or protection from detention without trial, are all suspended in the case of martial law being enacted.
The president has already tried to claim greater federal control over elections, which under the Constitution are administered primarily at the state and local levels of government.
In February, he said Republicans should nationalize boating in at least 15 places.
I'm guessing that the article's author used poor-quality speech-to-text, and didn't check the results.
The obligatory screen shot:

At the very least, I agree with Trump that boating by mail is rife with problems.

Reminds me of the time I spent most of a day wondering why he wanted to ban flavored baking products.

I suppose David Pisoni retired too soon.

He'll nationalize boasting for sure. He's very good at it.

Trump favors battleships of the "Trump class."
Whether they are needed or not.
Btw, are people who call themselves "classy," reliably classy?

Not just an error.
Last March, Trump ended a rule imposing a 10 mph speed limit on boats in the vicinity of endangered whales and then in at least one more recent speech, bragging about his deregulatory accomplishment, digressed into "discussion" of how he, as all powerful dictator of the U.S., could regulate or ban fishing from boats by executive order. Regarding the boating rule, see, e.g. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1414296823988490 and https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2026/03/24/under-trump-a-bad-boating-rule-finally-gets-a-second-look-opinion/ Re the musing speech around September 18, 2026, see https://news.meaww.com/trump-jokes-he-couldve-banned-fishing-with-his-office-power-before-easing-hunting-rules

Probably more likely to Freudian slip where he talked about boating in a voting discussion because he got muddled in his line of thought.

The tallest mountain on the island of New Guinea is called Puncak Jaya (Wikipedia gives the Indonesian pronunciation as /ˈpuntʃak ˈdʒaja/], which was spelled correctly several times in an article I once read. However, for the accompanying satellite view of the mountain, the caption named the mountain Pancake Jaya.

Maybe he'll cancel Motor-Voting (from the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA)) and replace it with NoMore-Boating.
