"Brexit quiz": blank…

« previous post | next post »

It's a good joke, but probably just an accidental one — "Quiz: What kind of Brexit are you? MPs can’t agree on what form, if any, Brexit should take. Can you do better?", Politico.eu 4/1/2019, as of 14:30 Philadelphia time, is just a few inches of blank space, with no questions, no answers, no links, no way forward…

Looks like the quiz loads now, for me. Were you listening to Skrillex at the time?

It works for me too. But it is indicative of the confusion engendered by Brexit that I can't tell whether this is an April Fools joke or not.

[(myl) Interesting. I still get a blank when I load it in Chrome, but I see the quiz when I follow the link in Firefox. It's not clear why — but then nothing about the topic is clear at the moment…]

I saw all the quiz OK.

And I thought I'd been paying attention to the issues. But I found the questions weirdly phrased. For example "Are you willing to accept EU budget payments?". Does that mean UK paying to EU's budgets or EU paying to UK? "Do you want budgetary divergence with Brussels?" Shouldn't that be "from Brussels"?

I suspect the quiz has been written by a non-native speaker. Good grief! The UK has been within the EU over 40 years, and still they haven't learnt to speak English.

It loaded for me in Chrome.

I answered with a selection of what seemed like reasonable 'soft Brexit' choices, and the response was "Are you out of your mind?" It suggested that there was a fundamental logical inconsistency (or more than one) in my desires.

It seems accurate, in other words.

Firefox or ungoogled-chromium either one, here I'd consider any failure to load a consequence of my security settings, namely, umatrix set to block connections to other sites by default, unless/until I go thru and allow specific ones for a particular site and optionally save the new allows.

Being USian but with a few years in Kenya as a missionary kid some decades ago (I was there for the 10 year UK independence celebrations in '73) and some travel thru Europe at that time, I've followed Brexit, but not /that/ closely, so I didn't bother /that/ hard trying to make the quiz work, but I did follow a related link and spent some time reading "How the UK lost the Brexit battle". Definitely worth the read.

I suspect that it is a joke.

I took the quiz twice, and each time I got a humourous judgment on my response.

The first time, I was judged to favour "General Election" and second time "Labour's Plan (Labour doesn't have a plan)".

The ambiguous phrasing of the questions is probably part of the joke…

For Minister Nathalie Loiseau, it's a cat!
