Miracles of Human Language

« previous post | next post »

Below is a guest post by Marc van Oostendorp, who will be teaching "Miracles of Human Language: An Introduction to Linguistics" on Coursera, 3/30/2015-5/10/2015.

Everywhere, every day, everybody uses language. There is no human society, no matter how small or how isolated, which does not employ a language that is rich and diverse. This course introduces you to linguistics, featuring interviews with well-known linguists and with speakers of many different languages. Join us to explore the miracles of human language!

Leiden University will present an Introduction to Linguistics this spring, in the form of a MOOC ('massive online open-access course'). Presenter prof. Marc van Oostendorp will introduce students into the basic concepts of linguistics, together with two of his own students and speakers of many different languages.

You can find more information, and sign up, at the course page.

"This course introduces you to the linguistics" should presumably be "This course introduces you to linguistics".

John Wells is right of course (as he always is); we corrected the typo.

Funny how this post is bracketed by "Below is a guest post…" and "Above is a guest post…" =)

[(myl) Of course it's not necessary for such a short post. But in the past, with longer guest posts, I've found that if I don't do this, people attribute to me things that should be credited to someone else.]
