Dear OSS Customer, **** Please do not reply to this message **** In case you need help or have technical problems please submit a service request using http://www.opensound.com/support.cgi. Thank you for purchasing Open Sound System. Enclosed is your license file for the Open Sound System software. The actual software binaries can be downloaded from our web site at: http://www.opensound.com/upgrade.cgi This message is the only proof of your ownership of a OSS run time license. It's your responsibility to keep the license information in a safe place. If you ever lose this license you will not be able to use OSS any more. Save the enclosed license to a floppy or CD-ROM and label it as a "OSS license disk". Keep it together with your operating system installation media. Do not remove this message from your E-mail account before making a safe backup copy. You need to save the license contained in this message to a disk file and to install it using the soundconf program of OSS. More detailed instructions will be given below. Saving the license to a file ---------------------------- There are three different ways to save the license included in this message to a disk file. The first method is the preferred method. The remaining methods can be used if your mail program doesn't support MIME attachments properly. Don't save the license file directly to the directory where OSS is installed. Put it to a some other directory (such as /tmp). 1) Save the attachment of this message alone to a disk file (license.dat). Then follow the installation instructions given below. When using Hotmail select the "Download without scan" link at the end of the message to download the file properly. With Yahoo! Mail click the "Attachment" link near the end of the page to download the license. 2) In case your mailer doesn't support MIME encoded messages you can save this message as whole to a file. However this method will _NOT_ work when using web based (free) mail services such as Hotmail or Yahoo (use method 1 with them). 3) Save only the text part (containing these instructions) of this message. 4) As the last resort you may try to cut and paste the text between the "-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----" and "-----END PGP SIGNATURE-----" lines (including these lines) to a text editor program (such as notepad) and save it to a file. This method is not recommended. ********************************************************************** VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE! Ensure that you save this file to a secure place (preferably on a floppy disk) before attempting to install it. Keep the floppy together with your OS install disks so that you can find it when necessary. Do not keep the backup copy in your system unless it's on a directory that gets backed up properly. Printed (paper) copy of the license is not a suitable backup. You will not be able to type the license information correctly by hand. Without this license file you will not be able to re-install OSS later after you have re-installed your operating system (for example after a disk crash). ********************************************************************** Installing the license file --------------------------- To install this license key, you need to follow the steps below: 1) Save this message to a file as described above. Transfer the file to the /tmp directory and write down the exact name and path of it (for example /tmp/license.dat). Do _not_ put the file directly to the directory where OSS is installed. 2) Log in as root and run "soundconf" (you may need to stop OSS by running soundoff in case it's currently loaded). 3) Select the "Install license file" option from the main menu and type in the _full_ path name of the license file (step 1) and select OK. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
